MLS Listings to Atherton Realty & Homes for SaleLos Altos, CA Real Estate & Visitor's GuideLos Altos —Communiti with a Palo Alto appeal and homes at an affordable price. Los Altos is a Palo Alto real estate "spillover community," meaning families that can’t quite afford homes in Palo Alto but don’t want to settle for a less desirable community often choose to live in Los Altos. Los Altos has excellent schools, a highly educated entrepreneurial work face, a pleasant shopping district as well as less traffic, stringer community activities and a more enjoyable pace of life than Palo Alto. Los Altos, CA Real Estate InsiderLocated in Santa Clara County, only 38 miles south of San Francisco, with 86% owner-occupied homes, Los Altos is considered one of the most desirable places to live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Generally speaking, Los Altos homebuyers get 15% to 20% more home than a comparably priced home in Palo Alto. Prices range from $1.3 million to $4 million and styles range from ranch homes ready for renovations to upscale estates. Prices are higher closer to downtown. Los Altos’ downtown area is upscale, but less diverse than Mountain View’s or Palo Alto’s. Nightlife is nonexistent and restaurants lack variety. There are, however, an overabundance of hair dressers, nail shops and spas. The Los Altos Downtown Merchant’s Association has placed a moratorium on such businesses in order to attract more retail and restaurant businesses. Old Los Altos, located near Shoup Park, is within walking distance to downtown Los Altos and is the most desirable area to live in. Homes on the market trend parallel to the Palo Alto real estate market and occasionally garner multiple offers. Los Altos, CA School InformationThe Los Altos Elementary School District is outstanding and unique because of the Los Altos Education Foundation (LAEF). LAEF is an organization of parent volunteers that provide a massive amount of funding to the schools as well as arts enrichment, science and physical education programs. High School students attend either Mountain View High School or Los Altos High School. Schools score lower than Palo Alto schools, but students benefit from an increased cultural and economically diverse school population. Keller Williams Realty & the Arjani Group
