Brookside Park is a low-key neighborhood developed along a horseshoe-shaped lane with only two entrances off Portola Road near Corte Madera School, in the heart of Portola Valley. Originally wealthy San Franciscans had summer homes in the area, but now is home to residents who enjoy the quaint, rural feel and convenient location year round.

Summer cottages were first built in Brookside Park n the 1920s where 41 half-acre lots were sold for around $300 each. Today, homes in Brookside Park are generally priced between $1.3 million and just under $3 million with the median home in 2006 priced at $1,413,000.
The neighborhood has changed drastically since its beginnings as a working orchard, though the rural atmosphere is still there. Residents occasionally see deer, raccoons and coyotes in their backyards, and the community’s closed-off street plan circumvents excessive through traffic. Neighbors gather annually for a block party and families feel safe letting their children play outside.
However, longtime residents of Brookside Park have noted the change from a rural community to a more suburban feel, though the change is mostly positive. Nearby shopping is available at Nathhorst Triangle on Portola Road and at the Ladera Country Shopper on Alpine Road.

Brookside Park falls into the Portola Valley School District for K – 8 and Portola Valley Sequoia Union High School District for 9 – 12. Students in grades K – 3 attend Ormandale Elementary, which scores in the mid 900s on the API, before moving on to Corte Madera, which also scores well on the API. Woodside High has somewhat lower scores on the API, due to the intermixing of students from other districts. However, opportunities are abound through programs such as the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program. Top-tier students often go on to attend top National Universities, such as nearby Stanford University, UC Berkley and other University of California Campuses.
Alternately, parents can opt to send their students to Woodside Priory School, an excellent private school located on Portola Road which has students in grades 6-12.
