Miranda Neighborhood —A quiet corner of Palo Alto tucked away from the busyness of the city
While most of Palo Alto is bustling with commuters, traffic and business, Greater Miranda has an almost rural feel in its isolation. Arroyo Court, Miranda Green and Moana Court, form the neighborhood of Greater Miranda, its quiet residential streets leading to tree-lined cul-de-sacs that block out the sight of rushing traffic. With just the right balance of separation from the city and convenient access to its amenities, the Greater Miranda serves as an attractive place for families to settle down.
Greater Miranda Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
Home prices in the Greater Miranda Neighborhood trend typical to Palo Alto real estate, with houses selling for around $1.3 million up to nearly $3 million in 2006. However, what makes Greater Miranda so desirable is its proximity to schools. Many residents are more than willing to pay the slightly higher costs in order to be included in the consistently high performing school district that serves Greater Miranda.
Though once predominately populated by older families, Palo Alto and Greater Miranda has had a recent influx of younger couples with school aged children. A neighborhood association has been organized in Greater Miranda, though it rarely meets save for discussing community events or pressing civic issues. For example, the neighborhood comes together each 4th of July for the Jelly Bean Olympics, which includes outdoor games and a potluck.
Recently, the association lobbied the city to repave Miranda Avenue after a fatal automobile accident in 2003. Now, the street has a walkway protected by a raised curb, which provides more safety for kids on foot or bikes.
Renovators should check with the city before planning construction, as strict maximum floor area ratios are enforced in order to maintain the distinct character of this Palo Alto neighborhood.
