Charleston Gardens Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
Homes for sale range from condos and property priced as “starter homes” and more up-scale houses. Prices in 2006 fell between $840,000 and $2.1 million for a house and $500,000 and $605,000 for a condo.
Most of the 300 single family homes were built between 1949 and 1953 in the attractive Eichler style. Eichler homes typify the “California Modern” look and are designed to take advantage of the ample natural light and pleasingly mild climate in the San Francisco Bay Area. With many windows, sun-light filled atriums, and open floor plans, Eichler homes are very desirable to young couples and new families. While most of these homes remain intact, some Eichler homes have been torn down and replaced with larger, Mediterranean style homes.
The roads in Charleston Meadows are designed with many cul-de-sacs and dead ends, where one can find shady trees, basketball hoops and friendly neighbors out for a stroll with babies or pets. Because the neighborhood is so well-defined, Charleston Meadows denizens find it easy to relate to one another, especially when brought together to address neighborhood concerns and issues.
Recently, concerns have arisen over new developments along the Elks Lodge and Hyatt Rickey’s Hotel site. Also, the neighborhood has banded together to push forward a plan to provide medians and bike lanes along the Charleston-Arastradero corridor in order to make the streets safer for kids on their way to school.
