Whisman Station is a cutting edge neighborhood, boasting newer homes, a light-rail station, and plenty of convenient amenities. Originally a peach orchard in the 20th century before being converted into an industrial park for GTE (now known as Verizon) Whisman Station is now the site of approximately 500 houses that are highly appealing to young couples and new families desiring the amenities of a newish home.

Homes in the Whisman Station neighborhood are priced attractively compared to adjacent communities of Palo Alto, Los Altos and older Mountain View neighborhoods. Homes quickly sell between $760,000 to $950,000 in 2006 with the median home selling for $838,000. There are also condos available, selling at a median price of $688,000 in 2006.
Homes are about an even split of single family dwellings and townhouses, but most of them are relatively newly built, making them low maintenance and well-wired. Thus, the homes appeal to the main demographic in Whisman Station: young, highly educated couples who work in the Silicon Valley technology companies.
The namesake light rail station allows residents convenient passage to San Jose, though many residents find that it is quicker to drive the nearby Highway 237 or Central Expressway.
There are moderate concerns over reports that trichloroethylene (TCE, a carcinogen) may be seeping into homes through the soil, but to date, only one home has been determined to have unsafe levels of the toxin. Community members are aware of the issue, but most are satisfied with the measures the EPA has taken to address the problem.
Whisman Station has proven to be a family-oriented community, with many nearby parks, including Magnolia Park and occasional neighborhood parties, including annual potlucks and block parties.

Parents within the Mountain View, California neighborhood send their children to Landels Elementary School, Crittenden Middle School and Mountain View High School. Top-performing typically go on to attend prestigious universities such as Stanford, UC Berkley and other top national Universities.
