The Crossings Neighborhood —A pedestrian friendly Planned Unit Development of the future with outstanding Los Altos Schools
Being small and self-contained are The Crossings’ greatest draws, as it makes the community extremely friendly for those that prefer not to fight traffic and search for parking for every little errand. It is the most affordably priced housing option in an outstanding school district in the Palo Alto/Los Altos area.Touted as the neighborhood of the future, The Crossings was developed with proximity to everything residents need from grocery stores to public transportation and schools.
The Crossings Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
With approximately 400 homes ranging from single-family houses to condominums and row houses and even some apartments, The Crossings has a diverse mix of accessibly priced housing options. The median home sold for $796,500 in 2006 and condominiums sold from $660,00 to $861,000 with the median condo priced at $712,500.
Architecturally, the homes are a bit more modern than most of the neighborhoods in Mountain View and Santa Clara County, as the area was developed much more recently in the late 1990s. The colors of the homes are coordinated in shades of pink, cream and orange and many have white front porches and trims. All homes are along tree-lined streets, and most are multi-level. This is by far the BEST VALUE housing option available in the Los Altos School district and perhaps the entire area. For this reason, homes in The Crossings “fly off the market” with increasingly higher and higher prices and multiple offers. The lowest price entry point for other homes in the Los Altos school district exceeds 1 million dollars for a 1,200 sq ft un-renovated, 40 year old ranch home on a 5000 sq ft lot.
Within walking distance of this Mountain View community are a grocery store, a salon, a café, the San Antonio Shopping Center and the San Antonio Cal-Train Station. En route, residents pass various well-manicured parks which serve as meeting places. Many residents enjoy jogging or walking their dogs through the streets and children can often be seen playing. Many residents report selling their second car, as their need for getting around is satisfied by the Cal-Train and easy access to other public transportation.
The Crossings Neighborhood School Information
One of The Crossings’ most desirable features is its school district. Though it is located in Mountain View, it is served by the outstanding Los Altos School District, which includes Santa Rita Elementary School and Egan Junior High School. These schools score very well on the API. However, API averages drop off at the area’s high school, Los Altos High School to about 820. This is due to a greater diversity in student population and demographics. Top-tiered students still consistently go on to attend prestigious national universities, including the nearby Stanford University, and University of California.
