Shoreline West Neighborhood —A diverse, up-and-coming neighborhood west of Old Mountain View
Shoreline West was part of Old Mountain View up until 1994 when the neighborhood association re-drew its boundaries, leaving out the area west of Shoreline Boulevard. In response, the Shoreline West Association of Neighbors (SWAN) was formed and Shoreline West was born. The area is a pleasant, close-knit community with much ethnic diversity.
Shoreline West Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
With the influx of young professionals to the Mountain View area, real estate prices are steeply rising in Shoreline West as homes are improved. In 2006, the median home sold for $838,000 with prices ranging from half a million to $1.6 million and condos ranging from $355,000 to $675,000. The skyrocketing prices has become an increasing concern, as natives to the area find they cannot afford to stay in the area unless they inherit a home.
In the late 70s, many banks refused or limited mortgage loans in the area, but since then the attitude has starkly changed. Families and young couples are attracted to the area by the historic homes. The neighborhood was originally populated by Seventh Day Adventists and retains much of its character to this day.
The Mountain View neighborhood reportedly has no racial minority. Shoreline West is populated by an eclectic mix of residents of diverse ages, incomes and ethnicities, which is reflected by the varying housing structures.
Despite the diversity of its population, Shoreline West neighbors attest to the community’s close-knit and involved nature. Neighbors keep an eye out for each other’s children and entire neighborhood enjoys participating—decorating, dressing up and celebration—in various holidays each year.
