The neighborhood began cultivating its own identity in 1904, when the railroad tracks sequestered it from the rest of the city of Mountain View.. The community flourished, until 1969, when construction of the Shoreline Boulevard/Central Expressway overpass resulted in the demolition of dozens of homes, and many families were displaced.
By the late 1980s, the city revisited the area, repaved the roads, and began developing new homes, making Jackson Park a quickly up-and-coming neighborhood. Residents enjoy Jackson Park’s affordability and central location, making frequent trips to downtown Mountain View.
Remnants of the Spanish, Mexican, Portuguese and Japanese communities remain in the area, including a Buddhist Temple built in 1957 and the Portuguese hall built in 1929. Celebrations include the Obon Festival and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Parade which delight residents and out-of-towners once a year.
Aside from the annual celebrations, Jackson Park is pleasantly peaceful and quiet, making it an excellent place for families looking for a culturally diverse, conveniently located community to settle down in.

Jackson Park is served by Mountain view-Whisman School District, which includes Monta Loma Elementary and Theuerkauf Elementary and Crittenden Middle School. High school students attend Mountain View High School. The majority of these schools score in the 700s on the API, with scores improving every year. Mountain View High scores are in the low 800s on the API. Alternately, parents can opt to send their children to the nearby Girl’s Middle School, a private school located on Rengstroff Ave serving grades six through eight, and dedicated to developing young women as tomorrow’s leaders and tech entrepreneurs. Some families opt to send their children to the highly rated St. Francis High School in Mountain View or The German International School of Silicon Valley.
