Park Forest Neighborhood —A secluded community with a European feel
Another one of Menlo Park well-kept secrets, few people even realize that the neighborhood of Park Forest is tucked between El Camino Real and the railroad tracks. But those that do simply love it. Amongst a mix of redwoods and Italian stone pines lies a community of about 85 townhouses designed in the Bauhaus tradition, giving this San Mateo County community a uniquely European feel.
Park Forest Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
The 2,500 3,500 square foot 1960s-1970s homes are priced between $960,000 and $1,295,000 with the median home selling for around $1,116,000 in 2006. Homes in Park Forest, Menlo Park are not your typical cookie-cutter variety of suburban homes, rather, the personal tastes of the resident are reflected in their design and appearance, giving the neighborhood a distinct eclectic look.
The neighborhood is split into three zones, bluntly named: Park Forest 1, Park Forest 2, and Park Forest 3. Each community has its own grove of redwood trees, a garden and a swimming pool, which is a definite plus for empty nesters looking for the comforts of a larger home without the hassles. Each community also holds summer potlucks and other events in the common garden areas.
Within walking or biking distance to Park Forest are a pharmacist, hair salon, exercise studio and Atherton Gallery. Park Forest is also where the Roger Reynolds Nursery, the oldest nursery on the San Francisco Bay Peninsula, was founded.
Despite being near El Camino Real, Park Forest experiences very little through traffic. However, accessibility to Park Forest can be a bit of a challenge during rush hour, as residents must cross El Camino Real in order to leave the neighborhood.
Park Forest Neighborhood School Information
Parents in Park Forest send their children to Menlo Park City Elementary School District schools. Students begin at either Laurel School or Encinal School (both of which score in the 900s on the API) and then continue on to Hillview Middle School and Menlo-Atherton High School. Scores start to slip lower on the API at the middle school and high school level, due to students from other districts being intermixed, but top-performing students continue on to attend prestigious national universities, such as the nearby Stanford University and University of California Campuses.
