Originally envisioned as a “home builder’s paradise” where wildflowers bloom year-round, Belle Haven today is one of Menlo Park, California’s more affordable and diverse neighborhoods. Belle Haven is a neighborhood that has been improving itself for quite some time. Though homes are priced accessibly today, Belle Haven is certainly an up-and-coming neighborhood.

Belle Haven’s changes include a shift towards newer homes and more owner-occupied homes. Old houses are being torn down and larger, more modern homes are being constructed in their place. Homes are priced competitively compared to other Menlo Park neighborhoods, ranging from $569,000 to $790,000 with the median home selling for $667,000 in 2006.
Other changes in this Menlo Park neighborhood include a new shopping center opening up on the corner of Willow Road and Hamilton Avenue and a new Boys & Girls Club. There is also an eclectic mix of restaurants in Belle Haven, including ethnic foods, like the Dashi Japanese Restaurant and well-known chains like Starbucks. The community also has a senior center, a Child Development Center, Belle Haven Clinic and a fire station and local police substation. Parks in the area include Kelly Park and Market Place Park.
Belle Haven, Menlo Park has a markedly diverse population, compared to most of Menlo Park. Belle Haven was the first low to moderate income subdivision during the Depression, and became a chiefly African-American enclave in the 1960s. Today, however, there is a bit more of a mix, with a large Latino and Pacific Islander population as well.
Recent neighborhood issues addressed include continued efforts to improve schools and increase safety for children by reducing traffic.

At the elementary and middle school level, students in Belle Haven, Menlo Park attend Ravenswood City School District schools. However, by high school, students can attend either Menlo-Atherton, Carlmont or Woodside High Schools, depending on address. These schools all have a diverse mixture of students which brings down their overall API score compared to the top schools in San Mateo and Santa Clara County. Nonetheless, top tier students go on to Stanford, the Ivy League and other top national Universities. The excellent University of California system has many campuses including UCLA and Berkeley, and all of these high school send many grads to each of the 9 campuses. Menlo-Atherton High School has been named one of the top 100 public schools in the nation by Newsweek magazine.
