Country Club Neighborhood —Large and small homes in a community that has retained its character
Country Club is named for the Los Altos Golf and Country Club that the community is built around. Once slated to be the site for Santa Clara University before the earthquake forced the university to sell the land, this 700-acre tract is now home to about 1,200 homes ranging from cottages to mansions that stand in the area today. Despite larger homes and a few undeveloped lots, Country Club is a neighborhood that manages to maintain its character, boasting gorgeous foothill views, oak trees and its namesake golf course, The Los Altos Golf and Country Club, one of the prestigious and challenging golf courses in the Silicon Valley.
Country Club Neighborhood Real Estate Insider
Los Altos Homes for sale in the Country Club area of Los Altos vary in price as much as they do in size, starting from $1.3 million cottage on a 1/8 acre lot to a $3.8 million mansion on a 1.3 acre lot. The median home sold for just under $2 million in 2006. Homes for sale with a golf course view sell for considerably more.
California ranch-style homes are common in Country Club, but larger, more architecturally impressive homes also dot the neighborhood. All homes are unique and custom built. The streets are narrow and winding, without sidewalks. Neighbors meet and socialize on daily walks around the exquisitely beautiful Los Altos Golf Course which boasts a lovely flat perimeter pathway ideal for that “morning constitutional” walk. The neighborhood is bordered by Magdalena Avenue, Foothill Expressway, I-280 and Permanente Creek.
Although there no commerce in the Los Altos neighborhood, shopping centers such as Loyola Corners, Miramonte Avenue and Rancho Shopping Center are within walking distance.
The neighborhood is served by the San Antonio Hills Homeowners Association, which occasionally courts annexation to either Los Altos Hills or Los Altos. However, since many of the lots in the neighborhood do not conform to either of the neighborhoods, such proposals have been met with discouragement. Despite neighborhood association, Country Club parcels are governed by a set of CC&Rs which would be unchanged by an annexation.
Country Club Neighborhood School Information
Country Club parents send their children to Los Altos School District schools Loyola Elementary School and Blach Intermediate School and Mountain View High School. The elementary schools score outstandingly well on the API (Academic Performance Index). Mountain View High school scores around 820, but this is due to the intermixing of students from other elementary and middle schools in surrounding areas. Top-performing students end up attending top tier universities throughout the country and California including Stanford University and UC Berkley.
