Named for Linden Towers, the 600-acre, 44-room estate built by James C. Flood (the “Silver King of the Comstock Lode”), the Lindenwood neighborhood in Atherton retains its exclusive air even after being developed with 400 homes. Enclosed by gates on Middlefield Road and Frederick Avenue, Lindenwood is community integrated into a lush forest of gorgeous oaks, evergreens and redwoods. The association serves to address community issues as well as maintain plantings and repair gates and fixtures in public areas. Lindenwood is served by Laurel School, Encinal School, Hillview Middle School and Menlo-Atherton High School. As part of the Menlo Park Elementary School District, Laurel and Encinal score in the 900s on the API with scores dipping into the upper-800s at Hillview. Menlo-Atherton High School, on the other hand, has been named one of the “top 100” public high schools in the country by Newsweek magazine. Many Atherton residents opt to send their children to the outstanding private schools in Atherton including St. Josephs Elementary, The Menlo School grades 6-12, Sacred Heart Prep and St. Raymond’s.
