Palo Alto Area Geography, Climate, Recreation and Cultural Pursuits

The Palo Alto Area is located in the region between San Francisco and San Jose California. It has a nearly perfect year round climate with cool nights and comfortable sunny days. Recreational activities including golf, tennis, sports, horseback riding, hiking, cycling, camping, fishing, sailing, and surfing are enjoyed year round due to the temperate winters, and resort like natural surroundings. Skiing and Snowboard enthusiasts head 250 miles east to the Tahoe region for winter recreation and vacation real estate. Much of the pristine coastal mountain ranges and beaches have been put into the public trust as state and regional parks, providing all citizens with incredible outdoor recreation opportunities. Outstanding cultural attractions including Opera, Theater, Symphony, Museums, Concerts, gourmet and ethnic restaurants, shopping, wine tasting, are available in San Francisco, Palo Alto and San Jose. Most Palo Alto Area cities have their own dynamic downtown districts with upscale shops and trendy restaurants.

Palo Alto Area Business, Economy and Job Prospects

The Palo Alto Area economy has its base in High Technology (7,000 companies), Bio-technology (1500 companies) and the emerging field of Green Technology. The Palo Alto Area economy has been compared to the California Gold Rush, except that it booms about every 8-10 years, creating thousands of multimillionaires in each cycle. This attracts highly educated entrepreneurial talent from all over the world. More Venture Capital is invested in Palo Alto Area businesses than the 11 next “tech regions” put together. 27% of all VC money, and 40% of all Green Tech money is invested in the area. The confluence of Venture Capitalists willing to consider and fund new companies from untested entrepreneurs, a cadre of seasoned tech startup pros that help these fledging companies thrive in their growing stages leads to a far greater chance for a startup company’s colossal success. Staggering investment returns for VC’s and entrepreneurs when a company goes public, result in huge job and wealth creation. The Palo Alto Area culture spawns dynamic companies such as VMware, Google, Ebay, Facebook, Cisco, and Apple.

Palo Alto Area Real Estate Insider

Real estate in the Palo Alto Area is expensive. This is due in part to a dearth of vacant land available for new real estate development, along with a very handsomely compensated tech workforce chasing a limited number of residential real estate properties. Palo Alto is one of the most desirable cities in which to live, and home prices hold their value and appreciate more in Palo Alto generally than any other Silicon Valley city. In the past 30 years, although the Silicon Valley has been through up and down tech markets, residential real estate prices have trended upward at a rate of 6-8% appreciation when averaged over 10 years. The typical Palo Alto Area family spends 48% of their income on real estate, yet most will tell you that their greater Palo Alto area home has been their very best investment. A Realtor® with the Arjani Group can show you the communities with the highest long term appreciation and excellent schools (This would be Palo Alto...). To date, less than 1% of Palo Alto Area residential real estate properties are in foreclosure.
